In-person learning option now required in Iowa schools
DES MOINES, Iowa — As of Monday, a new law signed by Governor Kim Reynolds last month requires that Iowa schools give students and families the option to return to the classroom amid the pandemic.
Gov. Reynolds signed the bill on January 29, saying that the state needed to “put local control back in the hands of parents where it belongs.”
Dangerously-cold temperatures on Monday led to many schools cancelling classes for the day or moving them fully online because of weather conditions – so the full impact of the law likely won’t start to be seen until Tuesday.
