More than 60 new COVID-19 deaths reported in last 24 hours of IDPH data

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 data shows an increase of 1,335 confirmed cases of the virus from 10:00 a.m. on January 19 to 10:00 a.m. on January 20. Those new cases come from 4,161 new tests. The 24-hour positivity rate is 32.1%.
62 new deaths were reported over the last 24-hour stretch – with 4,394 Iowans now dead from COVID-19 during the pandemic. The number of deaths that list COVID-19 as the underlying cause is now over 4,000 (4,007). 387 deaths list the virus as a contributing factor.
There are now 307,568 total cases confirmed in Iowa from 1,430,372 people tested for COVID-19.
270,555 Iowans are now classified as recovering from the virus – with 1,673 recoveries added in the last 24 hours.
474 people are now hospitalized in Iowa because of COVID-19. 86 of those patients are in the ICU. 36 of the patients are on ventilators. 85 new patients were admitted to Iowa hospitals over the last 24-hour period measured by IDPH.
