QTS will construct a data center in Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Alliant Energy and Cedar Rapids have formally announced that QTS will construct a data center in Cedar Rapids, which is anticipated to result in a $750 million investment for the community.
Cedar Rapids claims that QTS is a global leader in digital infrastructure, designing, constructing, and running top-notch data centers.
At their meeting on January 28, the Cedar Rapids City Council authorized a development agreement with QTS Cedar Rapids LLC.
The Big Cedar Industrial Center’s 612 acres will be the site of the data center campus. It is anticipated to be Cedar Rapids’ biggest economic development to date.
In a press statement, Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell stated, “QTS’s arrival highlights Cedar Rapids’ momentum as a center for growth and opportunity.” “With a multi-million dollar commitment to our community betterment fund, this investment strengthens our local initiatives and nonprofits, creates high-quality jobs, and propels economic progress.”
Mayuri Farlinger, Vice President of Energy Delivery and President of Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy division, stated, “We are thrilled to welcome QTS to Cedar Rapids and proud to support their investment in the area.” “As a reliable energy partner, we are dedicated to supporting their operations with affordable power while also promoting economic development in the communities we serve. This demonstrates the area’s status as a center for investment and innovation. We are eager to collaborate with them in order to secure their long-term prosperity.
Cedar Rapids claims that the facility will have a water-free cooling technology, which will drastically cut down on water usage in comparison to conventional data center cooling techniques.
“We continue to position Cedar Rapids as a destination for global leaders like QTS by focusing on meaningful partnerships, innovation, and utilizing local talent and infrastructure,” stated Jeff Pomeranz, city manager of Cedar Rapids. “This data center campus enhances our standing as a hub for cutting-edge technology, highlighting the importance of our continuous endeavors to establish varied industry clusters and guarantee Cedar Rapids stays inventive, sustainable, and prepared for the future.”
Once completed, construction is anticipated to provide at least 30 full-time, high-tech jobs in addition to hundreds of construction and trade positions.
