Man arrested after Cedar Rapids police responded to reports of shots fired
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The Cedar Rapids Police Department was called to the area of Cutler Street and Dawson Street in response to a report of shots being fired in the afternoon of August 21, 2022, at 3:50 p.m.
Mario Ronfico Smith, 23, was found by responding officers in the area on foot while carrying two weapons.
Responding officers conducted an initial investigation and found approximately 30 empty shell casings in the area and one residence struck. After further investigation, it was determined that one victim sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound.
Willful injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm by a felon were the charges brought against Smith.
