Linn-Mar encouraging students and staff to continue wearing masks
MARION, Iowa — The Linn-Mar Community School District has announced it will continue to encourage students and staff to continue wearing masks for the remainder of the school year.
This comes after Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill Wednesday evening including an amendment banning schools from requiring face coverings, and cities and counties from creating a citywide mask mandate for local businesses.
District leaders say because a large number of students remain unvaccinated due to age restrictions, they are still encouraging masks as much as possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Right now, Pfizer’s vaccine is approved for patients 12 and older.
According to data from the Iowa Department of Public Health Coronavirus Dashboard, the percentage of people fully vaccinated in the state sits at about 41%.
