Derecho anniversary commemoration in Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – On August 10, 2021, the City of Cedar Rapids will host a free event to remember the derecho’s impact on the city and citizens, as well as to honor people coming together to help one another during a disaster.
Residents are invited to a tree-planting ceremony at Bever Park Pavilion at 10:30 a.m., which will be followed by lunch and interactive activities.
Free lunch will be provided by local food truck vendors while supplies last.
The city will also provide disaster preparedness information, as well as community replanting initiatives and free gifts.
Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions to the City staff and emergency responders.
