Iowa City, Iowa – A couple of confrontations that occurred at the Ped Mall in Iowa City last month have led to the charging of a Cedar Rapids man.

Avonus Hodges, 18, was involved in a physical altercation with a group of persons near the Ped Mall’s College Street and Dubuque Street intersection just before one in the morning on July 21, according to a criminal complaint filed by the police.

According to police, security footage shows Hodges kicking and hitting victims while they are helpless on the ground.

Hodges’s first fight was broken up by officers, but when they left the scene, Hodges pursued another victim. After the victim was tackled by someone else, Hodges kicked him as he lay on the ground.

Hodges was one of five persons involved in this event, according to the police.

Hodges fled when the cops broke up the second fight. It was all apparently caught on camera.

Hodges faces charges related to his involvement in a riot.

Regarding this instance, the police have not stated if more charges are anticipated.

This event occurred just one day after police were called to the Ped Mall in response to a report of gunshots in a different incident.
