ISU wrestlers top UNI 23-17
AMES – Iowa State won six of ten bouts as the No. 13 Cyclones topped No. 15 UNI for the second straight season 23-17.
The two rivals went back and forth for much of the night. Sixth-ranked Ian Parker got things rolling for Iowa State at 141 pounds with a second period pin over UNI freshman Ethan Basile.
The Panthers, however, took an 11-9 lead in the meet when Triston Lara pulled an upset by pinning fifth-ranked Jarett Degen at 149 pounds.
Inn the end, it came down to a top-15 match-up at heavyweight. With Iowa State leading by three, fifth ranked Gannon Gremmel of ISU knocked off No. 14 Carter Isley 6-3 to secure the Cyclones’ win.
