Mercy named one of nation’s 50 Top cardiovascular hospitals
Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids this week was named as one of the nation’s top cardiovascular hospitals by Fortune and IBM® Watson Health®. The annual Fortune/IBM 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals study based its analysis on publicly available data from nearly 1,000 acute care, non-federal U.S. hospitals that treat a broad spectrum of cardiology patients.
Mercy is one of only three Iowa hospitals – and the only hospital in Cedar Rapids – to earn the Top 50 designation
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for all Americans. The Watson Health study reported that more than 7,000 lives could be saved and more than 5,000 heart patients could be complication-free if all hospitals performed at the level of Mercy Medical Center and the other Top 50 award winners.
Mercy has consistently earned Top 100 rankings in Fortune/IBM Watson Health’s Top Hospital Rankings and has received multiple accreditations and awards from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.
“With more than 120 million American adults living with some form of cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular services are among the most critical in healthcare,” said Ekta Punwani, 100 Top Hospitals Program Lead, IBM Watson Health. “Hospitals are constantly working to improve clinical and operational performance, and the exceptional organizations on this list demonstrate the standard for top-performing cardiac care. Their benchmarks serve as a real-world checkpoint for cardiovascular care across the U.S.”
The annual Top 50 report highlights the top-performing cardiovascular hospitals in the U.S. based on publicly available clinical, operational, and patient satisfaction metrics and data. The winning hospitals were announced in Fortune.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mercy reminds the public of the importance of seeking care for heart attacks, heart conditions, stroke and other urgent medical needs. The hospital is safe and Mercy healthcare providers are prepared to care for patients.
