City council seeks bids for the Cedar Lake North Shore Levee flood prevention project
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – City Council approved the Cedar Lake North Shore Levee flood prevention project at their meeting on July 13, and will begin accepting bids at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
The project is in partnership with a group aiming to revitalize the Cedar Lake region named CONNECTCR.
“It’s really an important project because it’s flood control,” Flood Control System Program Manager Rob Davis said.
The cost of the flood protection levee is expected to be $20,840,000. They plan to start construction in September and hope to finish it by the fall of 2023.
“There’ll be a lot of work going out in that neighborhood over the next several years,” Davis said.
This is the first of several projects in the Cedar Lake region, according to Davis.
“It also starts the amenity portion of the Cedar Lake, which is used, but it will be greatly enhanced. And we really can’t enhance that until we protect it from flooding. So this is the first stage of flood control in that neighborhood,” said Davis.
