$8.2 million secured to purchase property on East Lake Okoboji
Spirit Lake, Iowa – A preservation group in northwest Iowa has gathered enough money to purchase and preserve 50 acres along the East Lake Okoboji shoreline.
On Tuesday, the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation announced that it had secured $8.2 million to purchase the property near Spirit Lake. The property being purchased contains 2,020 feet of natural shoreline, which is the only undeveloped and privately owned stretch of the lake, according to the Sioux City Journal.
The foundation intends to start an ecological restoration of the shoreline while allowing low-impact public usage, such as paths connecting to a nearby state park.
