Live Concerts Return to Cedar Rapids This Weekend
It’s been far too long since we’ve been able to enjoy an in-person concert thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, but that will change this weekend! Two shows are scheduled to happen this Friday and Sunday in Cedar Rapids.
The first of those shows is country singer Josh Turner on Friday, September 18th. His initial concert was scheduled for August 22nd at the McGrath Amphitheatre, but the August 10th derecho prevented that from going on as planned. Not only was the date changed, but the venue is different now, too. The concert will happen at the U.S. Cellular Center beginning at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m. If the show sells out, the Cedar Rapids Gazette says that the audience will consist of 1,800 people instead of 7,000. If you had tickets for the previous date, they will be honored this Friday night, but if you’d like to purchase a last minute ticket.
Also set for this weekend is the Beatles vs. Stones tribute concert at the Paramount Theatre. That show is scheduled for Sunday, September 20th at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, audience capacity has been reduced from 1,600 people to 500 people.
Because these shows are expected to draw fairly large crowds, there are lots of rules and restrictions in place to keep people safe. These are outlined in the ‘Return to Live’ plan on the Cedar Rapids event website. Here are some of those new guidelines:
- Face coverings will be required for all ticket holders when they are not in their seat
- Bag size will be limited to 8″ x 5″ x 1″ and must be CLEAR
- Digital tickets and credit cards are highly encouraged, with some events accepting credit cards only
- Capacity has been reduced and seats are arranged in “pods.” Guests are asked to keep at least 6 feet of distance from other groups as much as possible
Next Saturday, September 26th, comedian Theo Von will be doing a live show at the McGrath Amphitheatre. Other upcoming events include Aaron Lewis & Sully Erna, The Fab Four: The Ultimate Tribute, and more.
