A Rescue in the ice

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – We’re learning more about a rescue that was carried out by Floyd County Search & Rescue and Charles City Police earlier this month. Authorities received a complaint about a dog that was stranded on the Cedar River near Charles City last Friday, just before the ice storm that struck last week.

The dog ended up slipping through into the icy waters after going out on the ice, according to Charles City Police Chief Hugh Anderson. “They threw out a rope to try to help the dog when they got to the scene, but the ice was too thin for officers to go out, so they called for search and rescue,” he adds.

The Yellow Lab was successfully returned to dry land by search and rescue using their specialized rescue suits, known as Mustang Suits. Even though it was a chilly day on the river, Anderson said that they never wavered in their resolve to try to save the dog.

Anybody with a pet understands that they are a member of the family, and Justin is no exception. I don’t believe it would be very hard to refrain from doing something when we get there and that dog is still weeping and wailing. Charles City Police Department Chief Hugh Anderson relived.

After being rescued, Anderson says the dog and his owner were driven to the veterinarian in a squad car. According to him, the owner has informed the department that the dog is presently doing perfectly.
