A synagogue in Iowa City lights a menorah in public to commemorate Hanukah
Iowa City, Iowa – On Thursday, December 26, the Chabad-Lubavitch Synagogue of Iowa City held a public menorah lighting at the Ped Mall in Iowa City.
Andrew Mendez-Sabba, his wife, and their daughter Giana were present at the menorah lighting.
When his daughter was born in 2021 with an imperforate anus, Mendez-Sabba talked about how his faith supported him while she was in the NICU.
Mendez-Sabba stated, “She spent roughly three months in the NICU, and at that time, I had no hope or life left in me.” I was always worried about her, but after I was able to meet with a friend, wrap up what’s known as Tefillin, and pray, something came over me, and then she received excellent news.
Rabbi Avrohom Bleskofsky discussed the significance of commemorating occasions such as these throughout Hanukah.
“We want to acknowledge that God is behind the miracle and give thanks if anyone has a personal miracle that happened to them, whether it be in health or any other area,” Rabbi Bleskofsky said.
On Monday, December 30, 2024, at 5:30 PM, the Chabad-Lubavitch Synagogue of Iowa City will hold its Chanukah meal at the Coral Ridge Mall.
