Brothers from Eastern Iowa who were harmed by a chocolate bar containing mushrooms speak out
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – There have been incidents of infections in 27 states, including eastern Iowa, due to an unregulated chocolate confection mixed with mushrooms.
A “micro-dosing” candy bar, as one business refers to it, recently poisoned two brothers from Eastern Iowa. Currently, their goal is to keep that product off the shelves.
A hazardous level of Muscimol, a hallucinogenic substance found in some mushrooms that can cause seizures in large quantities, was present in the “Diamond Shruumz” candy bar, which is available for purchase online and at C-B-D stores. The FDA does not have muscimol on its medication schedule.
The FDA is currently looking into the ailments that have sickened over 50 people nationally and resulted in one death.
When Tracey Poe and pals went fishing at Lake Iowa for the weekend back in June, they split two Diamond Shruumz chocolate bars.
The group was unaware that the F-D-A had already issued a warning that the product may be connected to illnesses in a number of states at the time.
The brothers claim that shortly after consuming the bars, they experienced convulsions, lost their ability to walk, and started having vivid hallucinations.
“I genuinely thought I was dead. It felt like my soul was ripped from my body and I was just there,” Tracey Poe said.
He claimed that the bar made him lose his sense of reality.
“I got this really bad feeling that something bad was gonna happen to someone if I didn’t kill myself. It felt like I had to, or something bad was gonna happen. So I headbutted the ground and told everybody I was gonna kill myself.,” Tracey Poe said.
Tracey called a friend before reaching that state, and the friend informed the authorities of the group’s otherwise remote location.
“My dad’s in the hospital chair. And he says ‘hey, you’re awake. you know what day it is?,” Dakota Poe said.
According to Dakota Poe, he spent four days unconscious.
According to the boys’ mother, the two boys’ destiny might have been drastically different if the call had not been placed.
“It wasn’t the sight you wanna see as a mom. He was in a state of horror. He looked scared,” Meredith Poe said.
After the hospital stays, Diamond Shruumz didn’t announce a recall for a product that could be purchased by kids for over a week.
