Iowa City, Iowa – Washington County had officially tallied all ten of its precincts as of Wednesday afternoon, but the District 1 Congressional election had not yet been called by the Associated Press.

Christina Bohannan and Mariannette Miller-Meeks, the incumbent, are competing in that campaign.

The lawmaker announced her victory during two visits in Iowa City on Wednesday. The Miller-Meeks campaign is up by about 800 votes, according to the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office.

The congresswoman claimed that this campaign, which was decided by a very few percentage points, was exactly what she had anticipated. She felt at ease announcing her victory, as she had in 2020 after a close contest against now Democratic Chairwoman Ritsa Hart, as Washington County was the final county to declare.

Although she hadn’t heard from her opponent, she acknowledged that this wasn’t unusual. According to her, Bohannan also didn’t get in touch in 2022. Additionally, Miller-Meeks stated that she does not anticipate a recount.

She declared, “The legal votes have been counted.” The next step is to tally any ballots that have been postmarked or have barcodes that are being received. We will also examine any provisional ballots, but there aren’t enough of them out to alter the results.
