Iowa Attorney General warns of stimulus check scams
The Iowa Attorney General’s Office has issued a warning from the about possible scams with stimulus checks.
Here are some important reminders:
- No government agency will ask you to pay anything up front to get your stimulus check.
- The government also won’t call, text, email or contact you on social media to ask for your Social Security number, bank account or credit card number.
- You cannot get your money earlier or faster through third parties.
- If you qualify, stimulus checks will arrive via direct deposit, as a paper check or as an “Economic Impact Payment” debit card.
Earlier this year, many people were confused when they received this card in the mail. The attorney general’s office wants to remind Iowans to not throw these away.
