Iowa State beats Oregon 34-17 in Fiesta Bowl
GLENDALE, Ariz. -In what will go down as one of the best (if not the best) seasons in Iowa State Football history, the No.10 Cyclones defeated No. 25 Oregon 34-17 in the 2021 PlayStation Fiesta Bowl on Saturday.
Brock Purdy and Breece Hall delivered, ending a one of the strangest seasons in the history of college football.
Hall ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns.
Purdy hit Charlie Kolar with a 14-yard touchdown pass and later scored on a 1-yard run, both in the 2nd quarter.
Connor Assalley landed field goals in the 3rd and 4th quarter, sealing the Cyclones’ victory.
While Oregon finished their season with a 4-3 record, the Cyclones finish the season with a 1st place 9-3 record in the Big 12 (going 8-1 in conference), saw Breece Hall named All-American and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and Coach Matt Campbell win Big 12 “Coach of the Year” for the third time in five seasons.
Iowa State’s win set a school record with nine wins in Big 12 play. The game also marked their their fourth straight bowl game appearance, was their first win since 2017, their second bowl game win in the last ten years, and Iowa State’s first New Year’s Six game in school history.
