Iowa will host more congressional election observers for the first district recount
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Observers from Washington, D.C., will be present to see Iowa counties get ready to recount the ballots in the contest for the First Congressional District.
The chairman of the House Administration Committee declared Tuesday that Congressional Election Observers would be sent to Iowa.
The committee wants to ensure that every legitimate ballot is counted, according to chairman Bryan Steil, a Republican congressman from Wisconsin.
“To ensure fairness and accuracy in our election results, we recruited a record number of Congressional Election Observers this Congress and continue to run the most robust Program in the House’s history,” Chairman Steil stated. In an effort to improve our elections, I would want to express my gratitude to each of our Election Observers as well as my colleagues for volunteering their staff time.
According to its website, the Election Observer Program was established in 2020. Each House of Congress has the power to “be the judge of the Elections, Returns, and Qualifications of its own Members,” according to the Constitution. The blatant attempts by Democrats to unseat a legitimately elected member of Congress from Iowa in the 2020 election and install a candidate of their choosing brought this authority into sharp relief.
The program is a crucial election integrity tool in supporting House Administration Republicans’ efforts to rebuild Americans’ trust in elections, the website goes on to say. Election observers must undergo a series of trainings and can be any member of the House Staff. Volunteer observers should be available for travel in November, however not all of them will be deployed.
According to the commission, over 75 observers were sent to 67 congressional districts for the election on November 5.
This week, TV9 contacted the counties of Jones, Cedar, Johnson, Washington, Keokuk, and Iowa to inquire about their planned recount dates. All but Johnson responded to us, stating that they were still arranging times and dates.
