Mar. 14: Iowa officials report a drop in hospitalizations as vaccination efforts continue

State health officials are reporting 1,034,866 Iowa residents have received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

So far, the state’s COVID-19 vaccination dashboard shows 366,711 people have completed their vaccine series by receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. With Iowa now administering Johnson & Johnson vaccines, 27,850 people have completed their single-dose vaccination. In total, 394,565 people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

COVID-19 hospitalizations have dropped to 160, a decrease of 22 since yesterday.

Iowa Department of Public Health data shows there were 282 new, confirmed cases from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, meaning 342,743 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19.

The state’s website says of the people who have tested positive, 324,429 have recovered. This is 209 more recoveries than what the state reported yesterday.

The state has reported five additional deaths connected to COVID-19, bringing Iowa’s death toll to 5,638.

Subtracting the number of recoveries (324,429) and the number of deaths (5,638) from the total number of cases (342,743) shows there are currently 12,676 active positive cases in the state.

In Iowa, the test results for 1,545 more individuals were reported, and a total of 1,596,314 individuals have been tested for COVID-19.
