Police Make Arrest in Shooting Death of Cedar Rapids Woman
Police in Cedar Rapids announced an arrest Tuesday in the December shooting death of an 18-year-old woman at an apartment complex.
Larenzo Laroy Burnett, 20, was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and witness tampering in the fatal shooting of Marisa Doolin, of Cedar Rapids, police said in a news release Tuesday.
Authorities found Doolin in the apartment on Dec. 22 with a gunshot wound, and she died four days later in a hospital.
Police said Tuesday that investigators believe Burnett intentionally pointed a handgun at Doolin, but that the gun accidentally discharged. Investigators say Burnett also warned a witness not to talk to police about the shooting.
Burnett was already in the Linn County Jail on unrelated charges when he was arrested in the shooting case Tuesday morning, police said.
