RoughRiders make an addition to coaching staff

RIEDEL JOINS ROUGHRIDERS STAFF
Cedar Rapids, IA – The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders are excited to welcome an addition to their coaching staff. Dan Riedel had been working with the RoughRiders since May as Director of Player Personnel and is now expanding his role to Assistant Coach.

Riedel is excited about his role in Cedar Rapids. “I’d like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Sdao, Coach Carlson, and the entire organization for this wonderful opportunity. Coaching in the USHL is a privilege and I intend to work as hard as I can to help the RoughRiders draft and develop as many high-level players and people as possible. I’d like to thank my wife Sadie and our family for supporting my pursuit of coaching in the USHL.”

Dan grew up in Rochester Hills, Michigan, and played his minor hockey in Detroit. Very familiar with the USHL, Riedel was a standout Forward for the Lincoln Stars from ’03-05. He was a First Team All-Star, Forward of the Year, and won the 2004-05 USHL Scoring Title.

Following his time in Lincoln, Dan played two years at Ferris State in the CCHA and was honored as All-Rookie Team CCHA First team member in 2005-06. Dan played professionally in the ECHL, IHL, and CHL and amassed 164 points in 245 games. He finished his playing career in 2011.

Riedel served as a head coach in the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies organization after his playing career. Dan has a record of 263-99-24 with National Championship tournament appearances in 2017, 2018, and 2019. In his time with the Grizzlies, his teams have placed 40 players in the USHL Draft, 17 in the OHL draft, 36 players have committed to Division 1 scholarships, Six players have made USNTDP, and two players have been selected in the National Hockey League draft. (Halverson 2014 2nd NYR, Norris 2017 1st SJS). Riedel has also worked as a scout in the USHL and OHL.

Dan graduated from Ferris State University with his Bachelor in Science degree and currently lives in Royal Oak with his wife Sadie and their daughter Avery and son Braeden.
