Snow makes driving challenging
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – In eastern Iowa, vehicles are facing potentially hazardous conditions due to snowfall on Wednesday night and into Thursday.
At least 12 crash complaints were received by the Cedar Rapids Police Department between 10:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., the department informed.
According to the Iowa DOT, a collision is obstructing southbound I-380 between Exit 55 and Brandon north of Cedar Rapids. Early Thursday morning, there was a diversion.
I-380 north of Cedar Rapids is partially covered, according to the Iowa DOT. To aid with road conditions, snow plows have been sent throughout eastern and north central Iowa.
Even though there isn’t much snow on the ground, it just takes a small amount to cause issues for vehicles.
Nearly 75% of collisions in Iowa occur when there is less than 2 inches of snow on the ground, according to the Iowa DOT.
