The 4-year-old meets the first responders from Cedar Rapids who saved his life
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Due to an ear infection that ultimately proved to be fatal, Greyson, who was just two years old at the time, fell asleep and did not wake up from his nap in February of 2023.
When Greyson’s mother noticed that her son was not breathing, she immediately dialed 911. In accordance with a video posted on Facebook by the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, Officer A’alyiah Watkins of the Cedar Rapids Police Department, Area Ambulance, and the Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to the scene and conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) that saved the victim’s life.
The ear infection that Greyson had developed into a septic condition. Sepsis is a condition that occurs when an infection that you already have causes a chain reaction to occur throughout your body, as stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
After more than two years had passed, on Thursday, September 5, Greyson finally got the chance to meet the first responders who had saved his life. He wanted them to witness how he had overcome the odds. In the present moment, he is joyful, healthy, and a bundle of energy.
