The government isn’t connecting to young Americans, according to an Iowa representative
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The two oldest presidential nominees from a major party in American history are Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Representative Sami Scheetz, a Democrat from Iowa State, stated that the nominees’ ages are only one example of how state and federal politics are unwelcoming to younger Americans.
“We have a government that doesn’t engage with young people and their issues,” Scheetz said.
Scheetz is among the newest state representatives from Iowa.
He asserted that older Americans have been alienated before because of President Biden.
“This is a problem that’s been pervasive for 20, 30 years in the democratic party,” Scheetz said.
Scheetz claims that younger generations lack awareness of current events, particularly those pertaining to state politics.
He asserted that the Democratic Party must address the issue of disenfranchised voters.
“We need to think bigger about how we communicate with young people to have even know what’s happening to them, and again, these are decisions that are impacting us for generations to come.”
