University of Iowa Pauses Football Ticket Sales for 2020
Iowa football fans, the University of Iowa Athletic Department has put a pause on football ticket sales for the 2020 season.
The season ticket holders who “renew their tickets and pay their per-seat contribution by June 30 will be included in any potential seating plans for Kinnick Stadium,” according to the report. The plans should be finalized by the end of July, and the University is working out accommodating as many Hawkeyes fans as possible who are comfortable attending a game inside Kinnick Stadium.
The University is doing their part to ensure a comfortable, safe environment for fans. They are continuing to conduct COVID-19 testing and keep up with protocols to ensure safety. The University of Iowa Athletic Department shared in a press release that they conducted 40 COVID-19 tests last week, nine of which were positive. Totals now are up to 12 positive and 374 negative tests. Student-athletes, coaches, and staff are part of the testing, and protocols are being followed to keep student-athletes and staff safe. As stated in the press release, this mandatory protocol includes isolation and quarantine for those who may have been exposed. University of Iowa associate professor and head team physician, Dr. Andrew Peterson, stated in a press release:
While we have experienced an increase in positive tests, almost all are related to individuals who had been in quarantine due to our contact tracing and developed symptoms.”
It’s also worth noting that the Hawkeye Express will not be operating in 2020 due to the potential reduced capacity at Kinnick, but fans can pre-purchase mobile parking passes and use public lots. Tickets will be digital and downloadable from Apple Wallet or Google Pay, and the season ticket holders who were looking forward to getting some actual tickets in their hands will receive a “commemorative set of tickets at the end of the season,” according to KCRG.
