Vilsack is the World Food Prize Foundation’s new CEO

Des Moines, Iowa – The World Food Prize Foundation announced on Tuesday that Tom Vilsack, a former governor of Iowa and former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, has been appointed CEO.

March 1, 2025, will mark the start of his tenue. According to the World Food Prize Foundation, Vilsack will use his vast leadership and diplomatic background as CEO to increase the organization’s worldwide influence in sustainable agriculture and food security.

Vilsack stated, “The World Food Prize Foundation has a remarkable and significant history of promoting innovation to address global food security.” “I am privileged to have the chance to carry on that tradition by collaborating closely with Mashal Husain and the accomplished group to increase the Foundation’s influence globally. I’m eager to establish new collaborations, support initiatives to guarantee a fair and sustainable food system for coming generations and assist in bringing innovative approaches to the battle against hunger to life.

According to the World Food Prize Foundation, Vilsack will concentrate on growing the organization’s worldwide network and enhancing the Foundation’s standing as a pioneer in combating world food insecurity.

Mashal Husain, president of the Foundation, will keep pushing for creative programming to keep the group at the forefront of the change in food systems.

From 1999 to 2007, Vilsack, a Democrat, presided over Iowa as its 40th governor. Additionally, he held the positions of U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama.
