Walking tours offered by Oak Hill Cemetery
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The traditional fall walking tour that Oak Hill Cemetery hosts every year took place on Sunday. People are able to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the history of the cemetery, as well as the prominent individuals that are laid to rest there.
In her capacity as historian for Oak Hill Cemetery, Jane Thoresen stated that one of the objectives of the tour is to make tourists feel at ease while touring the cemetery and gaining knowledge about the individuals who contributed to the development of Cedar Rapids into what it is today.
Judge Green of Greene Square Park, Samson Beaver of Beaver Park, and a number of prior mayors of Cedar Rapids are just a few of the notable individuals who have been mentioned.
According to Thoresen, it is essential for everyone to acquire knowledge regarding the history of the city.
“We learned after the flood and after the derecho that houses and buildings come and go. But this is the one place where people can gravitate to where they can still relate to the people that made our city what it is,” she said.
