Iowa man to spend 3 years in prison for disaster relief fraud
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Three years in federal prison for the 57-year-old man of Armstrong after receiving more than $1.3 million in loans as part of a fraud scheme through federal programs that offer help for losses due to coronavirus.
According to prosecutors, Donald Franklin Trosin was sentenced in federal court in Cedar Rapids this week. In February, he pled guilty to major fraud against the United States and money laundering scheme.
At the time Trosin conspired to launder funds from Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster loans he received from northwest Iowa and Minnesota banks, he was living in Champlin, Minnesota.
Federal prosecutors say he wired the money to other persons in different locations after receiving the loans.
