Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The Cedar Rapids Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday night rejected the proposal to rezone the vacant Colonial Centre at 2nd Avenue and 15th Street Southeast for use as a resource center and emergency shelter for part of the year.
The rejection comes after some Wellington Heights neighborhood residents expressed concerns over the plan.
With federal COVID-19 relief grants, the city of Cedar Rapids looked into purchasing and renovating the Colonial Centre. The total cost of the project was anticipated to be $2.6 million.
Concerns about the project were expressed by the Wellington Heights Neighborhood Association.
