President of University of Iowa discusses proposed tuition hike
Iowa City, Iowa – Barb Wilson, the new president of the University of Iowa, spoke to the media for the first time since taking her position last week.
She was talking about the board of regents’ proposed tuition hikes.
The former University of Illinois administrator was tabbed by the regents for the presidency in May.
“Iowa has kept tuition costs down and we’ll continue to look carefully at that-but we also have costs and we have to pay our staff and our faculty and think about inflation and all the things we want to do to support students.” President Wilson said.
A tuition increase of $280 a semester for University of Iowa students was proposed by the regents.
Tuition rates remained unchanged during the pandemic last year.
