Primary election for mayor and council seat to be held on October 5
Dubuque, Iowa – Candidates for Dubuque’s city elections in November will be decided in a pair of primary elections on Tuesday, October 5.
Brad Cavanagh, John H. Miller, April White, Nino Erba and David Resnick are the candidates competing for Dubuque mayor.
According to the city’s website, current Mayor Roy Buol is the longest-serving mayor in Dubuque history, although he chose not to run for reelection. In November of 2005, he was elected for the first time.
Cavanagh and Resnick are both members of the city council. April White is a “full-time mother” and a current Loras College student studying criminal justice and politics.
Nino Erba graduated from Loras College in 2016 and ran an unsuccessful campaign for city council in 2019. According to the Telegraph Herald, John Miller ran an unsuccessful write-in campaign for mayor in 2017 and has run as an independent for president in every election since 1998.
Louis Mihalakis, Michaela Freiburger, Tim Flynn, Ric Jones, are the candidates running for an open seat at Dubuque City Council.
Polls are opening at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5th, and will close at 8 p.m.
Two of the candidates with most votes in each race will continue to the November 2 election.
