Police chase in Des Moines leaves one dead, one injured
Des Moines, Iowa – Police is investigating an accident where a woman killed herself and seriously injured a passenger after crashing into a tree.
The accident occurred in Des Moines’ 3000 block of Scott Avenue around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The driver was discovered dead at the scene by first responders. A woman on the passenger seat was found to be seriously injured and immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The woman was traveling at a high rate of speed when a patrol officer tried to get her to stop, according to authorities.
The police called off the chase in less than a minute because the vehicle had already gotten too far ahead.
The driver continued to drive at high speed, lost control over the vehicle at one point and went off the road slamming into a tree.
Victims identities have not been revealed.
