Former high school coach accused of abduction and sexual assault
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Investigators are encouraging parents and players to come forward in the case of a former high school track and field coach who is accused of abduction and sexual assault.
Kameron Marrelle Beets, 29, was detained in Cedar Rapids on Monday. He’s been charged with kidnapping in the third degree, sexual abuse in the third degree, sexual exploitation of a juvenile, sexual exploitation by a school employee, and invasion of privacy.
Beets had “solicited inappropriate images from two kids,” according to the Marion Police Department. He’s accused of reaching out to victims using his position as the owner and operator of B.E.A.S.T. Academy, a high school sports photography business.
Search warrants were executed, according to police, and tens of thousands of digital photos of high school athletes were recovered. Investigators are looking over the photos to see if there are any additional victims.
A Linn County court issued two protection orders last month, prohibiting Beets from contacting two kids who have not been identified.
The accusation of sexual exploitation by a school employee does not name the school, although Beets is described as a coach for the Linn-Mar boys track and field team.
“Linn-Mar is aware of the allegations involving a former employee. No complaints were received by school administration to suggest any misconduct in a school-related context. The district is following our procedures and cooperating with law enforcement,” was said in the Linn-Mar School District statement.
If a parent believes their kid may have been a victim in this case, they should call the Marion Police Department at (319) 377-1511.
Beets is currently being held at the Linn County jail.
