Cedar Rapids Public Library gets around $50,000 to enhance its conditions
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The American Rescue Plan has given a grant to the Cedar Rapids Public Library.
The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced this week that the library has been selected as a recipient of the Museums and Libraries’ FY2022 American Rescue Plan Grant Program.
The Cedar Rapids Public Library will receive $44,969 to expand its mobile technology lab, which began operations earlier this year. The library will be able to provide computers, printers, and other services in parks and community partner locations with the help of the grant.
The money will also be used to enhance the library’s projects to boost low-income areas’ access to technology and to provide workshops on resume writing and interviewing skills.
“We are proud to be among this group of public institutions across the country who are working to provide critical services during the pandemic and beyond. These funds will allow us to further our goal of providing support to all members of our community so that they can learn, enjoy, and thrive,” Library Director Dara Schmidt said.
The library’s goal is to help solve the community’s unemployment and workforce shortages, which were aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic, by strengthening skill sets.
More than $15 million in American Rescue Plan grants will be distributed by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to institutions around the country.
