Cedar Rapids raising minimum wage per hour for lifeguards
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – In Cedar Rapids, the minimum wage for lifeguards at public pools has been raised to $15 per hour. This is part of the city’s plan to get more qualified people to apply for these jobs.
This season, the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department has had a difficult time recruiting enough lifeguards to ensure the continued safe operation of all pools. They had high hopes that this salary boost would make them more competitive in the current challenging employment market.
“We offer a great opportunity, especially for first-time employees. For kids who want to work full or part-time, in a fun, outdoor environment, and still enjoy their summer and make new friends, pools are a great place to be,” said Hashim Taylor, Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Director.
To pass the required skill test, applicants must be at least 15 years old and be good swimmers.
Those who are interested may submit their applications here. Send an email to pools@cedar-rapids.org with any questions you have or to find out when certification classes are going to be held.
