A bill from the Senate would ban new gaming licenses

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – A five-year freeze on new gaming licenses in Iowa has been proposed by a state lawmaker from Iowa.
The bill was introduced Wednesday by Lee County Republican Senator Jeff Reichman. If passed, it will prevent Iowa from awarding additional gambling licenses until July 2030.
Master Builders and Cedar Rapids Development Group, LLC, one of the organizations behind the proposed Cedar Crossing Casino in Cedar Rapids, have already filed lobbyist declarations opposing the bill.
This bill has not yet been introduced in the House as of Thursday morning.
The Iowa Senate’s decision coincides with the Iowa Racing and Casino Commission’s vote on a petition to prevent Linn County from obtaining a casino license on Thursday.
At its meeting on February 6, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is anticipated to reach a final decision regarding the issuance of a gaming license to Linn County.
