WORTH COUNTY, Mo. — Authorities report the body of a missing Missouri woman with ties to Iowa has been found.

A news release from the Worth County prosecutor indicates the body of 42-year-old Melissa Chapman was found after authorities received a tip Monday.

On Aug. 23, Chapman was last seen in Mount Ayr, which is southwest of Des Moines near the Missouri border.

Ringgold County authorities found her vehicle and cell phone outside a storage unit in Mount Ayr. Friends said she was set to testify in an abuse case against a man she had been in a relationship with.

The man, Jeremiah Searles, was wanted for questioning in this case. He is in jail in Harrison County, Missouri, on unrelated charges.

Chapman lived in Creston for many years and people on both sides of the Iowa-Missouri border had been working to try to find her.

According to the news release, the homicide investigation is ongoing and no other details have been released.
