Cedar Rapids is getting ready for freezing rain

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The City of Cedar Rapids has been getting ready for freezing rain ahead of Wednesday’s Winter Weather Advisory.
In anticipation of the rain, five trucks dropped solution on the roads Tuesday; on Wednesday, there might be as many as forty in Cedar Rapids. Regardless of preparation, the roads are expected to become treacherous in the case of freezing rain.
According to Brian McLeod, the roadway supervisor for Cedar Rapids, “ice is a tricky one.” “Give us a chance to perform our duties in order to ensure that everyone who will eventually be traveling is safe.”
Roadways can be particularly hazardous, the government advises, especially on bridges and overpasses. Additionally, since teams will be concentrating more on the city’s biggest highways, people should exercise caution when driving on less-traveled routes.
When it starts to rain, McLeod even advises people to avoid driving at all costs.
“During ice storms, you must remain indoors due to the inability to maintain control of the vehicles,” McLeod stated. Simply put, it’s far riskier. You can’t see it the way you can see snow.
Where you can’t see it, there is ice on the asphalt.
Additionally, he advises people to stay in their cars and dial 9-11 in the event of an accident. They can be in danger of being struck by other cars outside the car if there is a lot of ice.
