Cedar Rapids Police to hold drug take-back event

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – If you have old, unused prescriptions, vitamins or other medications you need to clean out, don’t throw them away as the Cedar Rapids Police Department is holding a Drug Take Back Day.

Cedar Rapids Police, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration, is holding the event Saturday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a walk-up location at the Police Station on 1st Street SW.

Items accepted include: prescriptions, vitamins, prescription ointments, pet medications, prescription patches, and over-the-counter medications.

Items not accepted: needles, inhalers, aerosol cans, thermometers, lotions and liquids, and hydrogen peroxide.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is now it its 11th year. Studies have shown that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including unused ones in the medicine cabinet.
