Cedar Rapids to pay $50,000 in a settlement to a man bitten by city police dog
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The Cedar Rapids City Council has agreed to pay a $50,000 in a settlement to a man who claimed he was unlawfully attacked by a city police dog last year.
The payment was authorized last week to settle Howard Cones’ lawsuit. Cones claims he was asleep on a park bench in June 2018 when the dog attacked him, causing several bite wounds and blood loss.
A second lawsuit involving a city police dog attack is still pending. That lawsuit accuses the dog of attacking a 13-year-old boy without being ordered to do so.
