Coralville City Administrator proposes the city’s next head of police
Coralville, Iowa – Coralville may soon announce the identity of its new chief of police.
On Friday, Coralville Police Department Lt. Kyle Nicholson was recommended by City Administrator Kelly Hayworth to become the department’s next Chief of Police.
In a press statement, Hayworth stated, “Kyle’s dedication to public safety and our community was evident throughout the selection process, and I have complete confidence in his leadership for our officers.”
The suggestion is made as the city searches for Chief Shane Kron, who recently retired.
Nicholson was raised in Coralville. In 2014, he became an officer of the Coralville Police Department.
He has held positions as an investigator/administrative lieutenant, patrol sergeant, and community relations officer.
Nicholson received his bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of Northern Iowa and his master’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University, according to city officials.
The city council must approve Nicholson’s nomination; they are scheduled to address it at a special meeting on September 17 at 3 p.m.
The official recommendations from Hayworth follow a nationwide search that started in June and finished approximately a month later. Cayler Consulting, LLC, based in Omaha, led the search.
Nine applications, according to city officials, were received throughout the hunt. After that, the consultants reduced the number of contenders to four, who took part in interviews and a public reception in August.
