Cedar Falls gives 5K to first responders in remembrance of September 11th
Cedar Falls, Iowa – As a group, about 100 Cedar Falls residents raced in remembrance of those killed in the terrorist events of September 11, 2001.
The city of Cedar Falls is hosting the Hope & Honor 9/11 5K. Participants were required to provide two non-perishable food items, even though entry to the race was free. The Northern Iowa Food Bank received those goods.
Although many people in Cedar Falls are aware of 9/11, the organizers wish to pay tribute to the first responders who gave their lives on that terrible day.
According to Amanda Huisman of the City of Cedar Falls, “We are hiring public safety officers who weren’t even born when the terrorist attacks happened.” “It’s a way to truly remember and preserve that memory so that future generations will understand the sacrifice made by the first responders to 9/11.”
During today’s run, the organizers also wish to pay tribute to veterans and first responders who are currently in service.
There will be medals awarded to the top 100 finishers of the race. Participants are asked to contribute two non-perishable food items, even though entry to the event is free.
It is a day set aside to honor the memory of the deceased.
Around a hundred people signed up for today’s run. The goal of Cedar Falls’ tragedy is to unite its citizens and provide them with resources.
There are fourteen exhibitors present; the city aims to link veterans with VA groups and hospitals, among other service providers. The city wishes to remember everyone who was there 23 years ago on 9/11, including veterans and first responders.
“We particularly included that because we wanted to give veterans resources so they might have a better future. This is one of the reasons we got in touch with the veterans and healthcare organizations in our community so that they could be there and that we could give veterans information.
The start time for the run is 7:15. There will be medals awarded to the first 100 winners.
