Des Moines, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Government Efficiency Task Force was established by an executive order signed by Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa.

Reynolds stated during a press conference on Monday that the task group is anticipated to carry on with the DOGE initiatives at the federal level and find more methods to reduce government costs across the board.

The task force will be composed of corporate executives who will strive to provide recommendations.

According to Reynolds, the task group will focus its efforts on three main objectives: optimizing the return on public money, improving our workforce and job training initiatives, and utilizing technology like artificial intelligence.

Emily Schmitt, the general counsel and chief administrative officer of Sukup Manufacturing Co., is in charge of the task group. Reynolds claims that she was the chair of the Child Care task force and a previous member of the Reynolds Economic Recovery Advisory Board, both of which produced recommendations that were implemented with very few exceptions.

Being the chair of your state task force for Iowa is a great honor for me. Additionally, this will be implementing your ongoing plan to use daring solutions,” Schmitt stated.

Reynolds remarked, “You and the task force members truly stepped forward to serve in this capacity, and for that I am so grateful.” “As you mentioned, you live every day, therefore I believe you bring a lot of expertise to the table. Therefore, thank you very much for taking the initiative and participating in this.

The creation of the @IowaDOGE X account is one way the public can provide feedback to this task committee. Additionally, a public portal will be set up so that the task force can gather and receive suggestions and comments.

“In government, it’s about using resources to their fullest potential while cutting costs, which should result in a government that works with the people and continues to innovate and sustain solutions,” Schmitt stated.

Reynolds stated that the task force will convene within 60 days and then, 180 days after the initial meeting, submit its report and recommendation.

“I like to say that we were doing DOGE before DOGE was a thing,” Reynolds stated in her Condition of the State address. I’m starting our own State DOGE to expand on our achievements and identify even more savings and efficiency in state and local government. Because we also need to be lean at the municipal level in order to enact effective property tax reform.
-Reynolds, Governor

Governor Reynolds’ website states that 21 departments from the governor’s cabinet have been eliminated, 1,200 onerous rules have been trimmed, agencies with comparable functions have been consolidated, programs addressing similar needs have been centralized, and legacy systems have been redesigned.
