The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says a Mount Vernon man is facing charges after he’s accused of animal neglect.

Brian Greazel, 43, was taken into custody after being served an arrest warrant on Wednesday, February 24.

Authorities say on Thursday, February 11, the sheriff’s office received a complaint of neglected cattle located on Linn Ridge Rd in rural Lisbon.

When deputies arrived they found numerous deceased cattle on the property. Through an investigation it was determined the cattle were being neglected of sustenance, shelter, and care.

Investigators say Greazel is the owner of the cattle and is being charged with livestock neglect resulting in death, which is a serious misdemeanor.

18 head of cattle where able to be rescued on February 15. The Iowa Farm Animal Care organization, the Iowa Beef Industry Council, and the Iowa Cattleman’s Association aided the Linn County Sheriff’s Office to find a safe location to take the remaining cattle.
