PREVIOUS STORY: A Cedar Rapids police officer is OK after their squad SUV was rear-ended by an alleged drunk driver late Tuesday night.

Joseph Weber, 42, was taken to Linn County Jail on charges of operating while intoxicated, failure to maintain control, and failure to change lanes for a stationary emergency vehicle. His injuries from the crash did not require hospital transport.

Around 11:10 p.m., the officer’s vehicle was hit while its emergency and directional lights were on to divert traffic away from another crash scene that sent a motorcyclist and their passenger to the hospital.

Area Ambulance Service took the CRPD officer to UnityPoint-St. Luke’s for treatment. They were released shortly after.
