May 20: Five new COVID-19 deaths recorded in Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa — New data from the Iowa Department of Public Health shows an additional 233 positive cases of COVID-19 in the state from 10:00 a.m. May 19 to 10:00 a.m. May 20.
A total of 370,154 people in Iowa have now tested positive for COVID-19 since the coronavirus pandemic began.
The seven-day rolling positive test average is at 3% in the state.
Five new COVID-19-related deaths have been reported, moving the state’s death total to 6,018.
An additional 10,329 people have been fully vaccinated in Iowa against the virus for a total of 1,286,083.
According to recent population data, that means about 41% of people are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Iowa.
Iowa has administered 2,642,662 total doses of the vaccine.
The total number of hospitalizations in Iowa increased by one to 146. There are 45 patients in ICU, an increase of one from May 19.
