Special art project to express derecho memories will be held in Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Friends, family, and neighbors are invited to attend a special art event in Cedar Rapids that brings together creativity and mental health awareness.
Attendants can participate in a simple art project to express emotions, reflections and memories related to the derecho.
Mental health specialists and resource and referral coordinators will be on hand at Foundation 2, Tanager Place, and the Abbe Center to speak informally with residents and answer any concerns about mental health services available in the community for both adults and children.
Community members will be given the chance to paint a design of their choice on a circular slice of wood recovered from trees lost in the derecho, either in a group or individually.
Residents will be able to take their artwork home with them; the wood, paintbrushes, and paint will be given for free.
