Storm Lake, IA man arrested after hit-and-run involving 15-year-old
STORM LAKE, Iowa – A Storm Lake, Iowa, man has been arrested after police say he struck a 15-year-old girl with his car while being drunk.
Twenty-seven-year-old Juan Parra faces eight charges, including operating while intoxicated (2nd offense), two counts of child endangerment, and causing serious injury by vehicle.
He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $7,000 bond.
Storm Lake Police say Friday morning they were called to the 800 block of Oneida Street for a report of a person being struck by a vehicle, later identified as a 15-year-old girl. She was taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment of suspected serious injuries.
The Storm Lake Community School District said the 15-year-old is a student with the district.
Police say they were able to use video surveillance from the Storm Lake High School and school buses to identify the vehicle involved in the accident, belonging to Parra.
Police located the vehicle and Parra. They say Parra was showing signs of alcohol impairment.
Police say Parra was taken to the Buena Vista County Jail, where his blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
