Temporarily, the new vape law is on hold
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – A recent state bill that would have restricted the sale of vaping items has been halted. The decision to delay implementation was made by the Iowa Department of Revenue.
This follows a lawsuit that was launched a few weeks ago by a number of corporations against the new law.
Ashley Hartman, Chief Strategy Officer of Central Iowa Vapers in Cedar Rapids, sees the vape items that line their shelves as more than just a source of revenue. She claimed it assisted her mother in quitting smoking as well.
“It’s best for you to inhale nothing, but we all know that quitting combustible cigarettes is really difficult,” she remarked.
Sales of vaping items that do not have FDA marking authority are prohibited by the new regulation. According to her, doing so would require removing more than 4,000 items off the market.
“That won’t sustain these stores,” Hartman stated. They are not dependent on selling soda and snacks. This is how they make a living.
Recently, the Iowa Department of Revenue declared that it would postpone the implementation of the new rules. The Iowa Attorney General’s Office supported the wait, citing “preplanned holiday obligations” and “time to understand the new requirements,” according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch.
We’re hoping we can cooperate with the government and reach an agreement. We have been advocating for what we consider to be a superior substitute for tobacco products,” Hartman stated.
It is important to note that this rule is opposed by the American Cancer Society, which issues warnings about the risks associated with vaping. Although Hartman acknowledged the necessity for restrictions in her field, she claimed that this bill would simply make it more challenging to expand as a business owner.
“If we are unable to reach an agreement, it will have a significant impact on our business and we will have to shut down,” she stated.
